We are pleased to announce that our first set of dates for our 5 Day Traditional Upholstery Courses at Intermediate Level are now available to book.
Our first course will run from Monday 2nd November – Friday 6th November 2015 with more dates to follow in the near future.
The course is suitable for anyone who has attended either our 2 Day Introductory or, our 5 Day Beginners Course in traditional upholstery. The aim of the Intermediate Course is to learn more advanced traditional upholstery techniques which, when used in conjunction with the upholstery skills previously acquired, will allow students to upholster larger pieces of furniture with confidence.
Over the 5 day period you will learn how to upholster either a small, sprung, antique dining/bedroom chair or a Victorian style ottoman box.
If you choose to upholster a sprung dining chair then you will learn how to spring a chair using traditional cone springs by tying in and then lashing the springs onto a webbed base. You will also learn the technique of applying a second stuffing and adding a stitched edge roll. You are welcome to bring along your own antique chair to work on or, if you prefer, we can provide you with a suitable chair. Please contact us to enquire about the stock we currently hold.
If you choose to upholster a Victorian style ottoman box then you will learn how to deal with curved and unusual shapes along with hand sewing techniques which are essential to the craft of traditional upholstery. The ottoman boxes can be ordered, for your course, from The Unique Seat Company. Please contact us for full details.
