Parker Knoll Armchair – Caroline Simpson (Bristol)

Parker Knoll Armchair

Caroline Simpson from Bristol emailed us after seeing our work on the website. Our antique furniture, upholstered in modern fabrics, had inspired her and she had decided to have a Parker Knoll armchair, which had been passed down to her by her parents, re-upholstered in an on-trend fabric so that the chair would fit nicely into her modern home.   Caroline chose a stunning fabric from Designers Guild (Colonnade – Zinc). We stripped the chair to the frame replacing all the old, worn fillings and then stripped the wood, re-staining to a dark, almost black, finish to get rid of the mahogany red colour which Caroline disliked and then French polished and waxed the woodwork. The results were amazing, as can be seen for the photographs below….

Antique Wing Armchair – Helen Honisett (Nether Edge, Sheffield)

Wing Armchair

Antique Wing Armchair Our re-upholstery and re-covering services can transform an ordinary piece of furniture into something spectacular. A good example of this is when Helen Honisett of Nether Edge, Sheffield approached us for a quote for her beloved antique wing armchair. The chair had been upholstered several times by previous generations of Helen’s family and now required an update due to looking tired after years of excessive use and unwanted attention from the family cats. Helen chose two velvet fabrics from Linwood’s Omega II range – Royal and Tango. This Italian velvet is a fantastic addition to Linwood’s range of fabrics as it is stain resistant, hard wearing and washable (loose cushions only). As Helen has a young family these attributes were really important when considering…

Antique Armchairs – Vicki Towndrow (Ecclesall, Sheffield)

20th Century Nursing Chair

Vicki Towndrow from Ecclesall, Sheffield asked us to traditionally upholster three antique armchairs for her new home. One chair was an Edwardian drop-in seat armchair, the second a Victorian pin-stuffed armchair and the third an antique, can backed nursing chair. Vicki’s nursing chair required re-springing and completely re-upholstering (see photographs below).   The frames on the other antique chairs were stripped back and the woodwork was lightly cleaned and polished in order to preserve the original finish. Vicki chose a beautiful, stain resistant velvet fabric from Linwood in a gorgeous Atlantic Blue colour which really brought out the colour of the wood. We highlighted the velvet blue on Vicki’s pin-stuffed armchair with French Natural decorative nails, which we applied individually, by hand.   If you have similar chairs which you…
